It's not the Moto X, but another new Motorola device spied in leaked shots

It's not the Moto X, but another new Motorola device spied in leaked shots

That notorious Twitter leak-artist EVLeaks is at it again this weekend, posting a leaked press shot of a new Motorola device, but before you get too excited, it's not the Moto X.

Instead it's a new iteration of the long-running Droid brand the Google-owned company manufactures Verizon brand in the US and spins out under various guises around the world.

The so-called Droid Maxx would be a successor to last year's Droid Razr Maxx, and judging by the photo retains the same carbon fibre casing.

It's difficult to tell much else from the press photo, but the device seems to have a slightly slimmer bezel than previous iterations of the device.

Legacy devices live on

Mr (or Mrs) EVLeaks doesn't reveal anything else regarding the device beyond the photo, but launch of a new Droid handset would be interesting given Motorola's transition into a Google company.

The Droid line dates all the way back to the company's first Android handsets with QWERTY keyboards and has long been popular among Motorola loyalists, despite losing some steam in recent years.

Naturally, there have been doubts over whether Google would continue pushing on with Moto's legacy devices in this new era, but for now, at least, new releases are on the cards.

HTC One finally boosted to Android 4.2.2 in Europe, US users still waiting

HTC One finally boosted to Android 4.2.2 in Europe, US users still waiting

Some HTC One owners in Europe have a new version of Android to explore this weekend, after the latest 4.2.2 version of Jelly Bean started to arrive on handsets across the region.

Some users of the 4G iteration of the device began seeing the update late on Friday, which brings the Android Daydream wallpaper, quick settings options and access to lock screen widgets.

However, beyond the standard Android 4.2.2 update, which also includes the ability to access Google Now by swiping up from the home key, HTC has also taken the opportunity to boost HTC Sense.

It brings Instagram to Blinkfeed, adds a battery percentage indicator and gets rid of the unsightly black menu bar that popped up when using some Android apps.

Not seeing it? Don't fret

The update is available to download over the air and users can check its availability by navigating to Settings > About > Software updates.

As always with these deals, it may take a little while for the update to reach all users so if you haven't had a notification yet, don't fret too much.

There's also no indication of when One owners in the US may be getting the update, but we can't imagine it'll be too long.

The good folks at AndroidCentral have gone hands-on with the update so at least you can see what's in store when the new software lands on your device.

Is this budget iPhone leak a ruse to flog a cheap Android knock-off?

Is this budget iPhone leak a ruse to flog a cheap Android knock-off?

There seems to be little doubt now that Apple intends to launch a more affordable iteration of its iPhone handset, but, as the old saying goes; seeing is believing.

Well, after months of speculation and purported plastic cases leaking out into the wild, one tech site claims to have got some hands-on time with the finished article and posted pics and video as supposed proof.

The Techdy blog has showcased an extensive gallery of a white handset with a polycarbonate shell, bearing the Apple logo and a well-polished video claiming to showcase the device in all its glory.

The site doesn't say how it got hold of the device, which features a thinner-than-usual bezel, lightning port, but there's enough in the text to warrant a healthy dose of cynicism.

Marketing ploy?

Later in the post, written by the editor of the M.I.C gadget blog, readers are invited to check out and buy the 'Basic Bear,' an Android phone 'inspired by the design' of the so-called budget iPhone.

Hmmm.

Regardless of the validity of the leak, the photos and video (which can be viewed here) offer an interesting interpretation of what the cheaper iPhone may look like if and when Apple launches the device.
