Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is ready to be unpacked in video teaser

Samsung has taken to YouTube, much in the same way as Sony, in an attempt to get people excited about its Unpacked event at IFA 2014.

Filled with buzz words such as "share", "write", "create" and "go big" it's not difficult to see what Samsung will be pushing with the Galaxy Note 4.

At the end of the video we even get an outline of a handset and a stylus (or S Pen, if you prefer the correct Samsung terminology) followed by the worlds "Ready to Note?".

Take Note

According to previous leaks the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will sport a 5.9-inch QHD display, powerful quad-core processor (perhaps 64-bit), 16MP camera and of course the S Pen stylus.

TechRadar will be reporting live from Samsung's Unpacked press conference at IFA 2014 on September 3, so stay tuned for all the information from the Korean firm.

Sony teases three new devices ahead of IFA 2014

Sony teases three new devices ahead of IFA 2014

IFA 2014 is just days away and the rumour mill is at full speed as we enter the home stretch - even the manufacturers are getting in on the action with Sony releasing a video teaser for its press conference.

The theme is heavily based around the number three, and a split second glimpse of three silhouetted products in the YouTube clip reveals a tablet and two smartphones are on the way.

If we look at previous rumours it seems the handsets could well be the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, while the slate in question is apparently set to be a smaller take on the Xperia Z2 Tablet - the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, according to the rumours.

More of the same

The Xperia Z3 appears to be just a slight upgrade over the Xperia Z2, with various leaks suggesting only some very minor tweaks to the device.

The Sony press conference is taking place in Berlin on September 3 and TechRadar will be reporting live to bring you all the latest.

Apple may have a new partner for its iPhone 6 payment platform

Apple may have a new partner for its iPhone 6 payment platform

Thanks to reports that appeared late in August Apple is expected to reveal a new iPhone 6 mobile payment platform in September, and the company has reportedly found a new partner.

Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on the iPhone payment platform, according to Re/code.

The new service will supposedly take advantage of the iPhone 6's rumored NFC capabilities to let users pay with their phones at retail points in physical stores.

According to the latest reports the iPhone 6 payment platform will feature heavily at the iPhone 6 announcement event on September 9.

Pay-date

American Express is the second partner that's been reported to be on board with Apple's new payment scheme, the first being Visa, as The Information said in July.

Apple will need more partners than that if its iPhone 6 payment platform is going to do better than other mobile payment options like Google Wallet, while at the same time competing with established services like PayPal.

Naturally sources are saying that the company is still in talks with multiple other potential partners, but only American Express and Visa have allegedly been confirmed.

Between this and all the iWatch news the site has divulged recently, Re/code is really on a roll with Apple rumors. Hopefully some of these pan out.

Lumia 730 and 735 show their black and white faces in photo leak

Lumia 730 and 735 show their black and white faces in photo leak

We're anticipating that Microsoft will debut both the Nokia Lumia 730 and the Nokia Lumia 830 at IFA 2014 this September, and the latest photo leak has provided some new clues regarding one of these devices.

The photos appeared on Chinese site Baidu Tieba with watermarks claiming that they show not just the Lumia 730, but also a new Lumia 735 variant.

The Lumia 735 is reportedly the version with 4G LTE, while the 730 has dual-SIM 3G capabilities.

They appear here in black and white, though the release versions will likely come in more colors.

Middle of the road

As a successor to the Nokia Lumia 720, the Lumia 730 and 735 should fall in the mid-range of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 handsets this generation.

As Windows Phone Central points out, these photos make it look basically like a mix between the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 800/900 series in terms of design.

The Lumia 730 is rumored to carry a 4.7-inch HD ClearBlack display, a quad-core Snapdragon chip, 1GB of memory, 6.7- and 5-megapixel cameras, and 8GB of storage with microSD support - and unlike other Lumia devices, no dedicated hard camera button.

Not the greatest specs, but that's why the term "mid-range" exists.

  • Good thing it won't be competing with the iPhone 6
