Marcus Jaye runs independent men's style blog thechicgeek.co.uk. Capturing the moment is a key element to his business; sharing it with his readers quickly is essential.

Hitting the streets with the GALAXY Note II, Marcus spots a couple of nattily-attired blokes and gets their permission to take photos for his blog. Using the Best Photo feature, he reels off a volley of shots, then picks the best poses and expressions. He then employs Paper Artist to turn his selection into a hand-drawn work of digital art.

"For me, creativity is about taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun," he says. Later, other trend-setting gents are captured with the slo-mo movie mode and 1080p video capture, with multiple files saved to the sizeable, 64GB internal memory.

For bloggers such as Marcus, this ability to create from anywhere is indispensable. "It helps me to unleash my creativity," says Marcus. "The camera is great and editing photos is very easy."

Performing multiple tasks on the same screen at the same time with no screen transitions, Marcus is able to update his website, look through his photos and create a digital scrapbook for his latest post.

"Above all, creativity is about inventing," he concludes.

Huawei could be readying another powerful Samsung Galaxy S4 rival

Huawei could be readying another powerful Samsung Galaxy S4 rival

Huawei may be putting the finishing touches to a Samsung Galaxy S4 challenger as details leak on a new high-powered handset.

According to Chinese website mobile163, Huawei is planning another quad-core handset which is set to launch in April.

The report suggests the currently nameless device will pack a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, 4.9-inch full HD display, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera and a 2,600mAh.

Again, again, I love repetition

It also claims Huawei will pack all this tech into a body which is just 6.3mm thick, which makes us fear the handset in question could be pretty bezel-heavy to compensate.

If true, it's a slightly puzzling decision from the Chinese firm as it's already announced two quad-core handsets this year, with the 5-inch Ascend D2 breaking cover at CES 2013 and the 4.7-inch Ascend P2 arriving at MWC 2013.

The advantage of Huawei releasing another flagship smartphone is that it will be thrown into the minds of consumers again, and if it's priced cheaper than the Galaxy S4 it may well tempt some away from Samsung's offering.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini may arrive in four different guises

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini may arrive in four different guises

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini may arrive in four different guises, with the variants apparently leaked on the Korean firm's website.

We saw the Galaxy S3 mini launched a few months after the flagship Galaxy S3 last year as Samsung looked to offer a cheaper alternative to its headline product, and it's expected to do the same this year with the Galaxy S4.

An eagled-eyed Twitter user spotted the details on Samsung's website, and this was then picked up by Japanese site Blue Ringer Men.

Mini but mighty

According to the listing Samsung is planning dual-SIM (GT-I9192), 4G (GT-I9195) and China-specific (GT-I9198) Galaxy S4 mini handsets alongside the stock version - which looks to be carrying the ID GT-I9190.

Rumours suggest the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini will sport a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display and come running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean - giving it a slight boost over the S3 mini.

The likelihood of you seeing more than one of these iterations in a mobile store near you is pretty low as Samsung will send certain variants to specific markets - so if you have a hankering for a dual-SIM S4 mini you might be out of luck depending on where you live.

If the Galaxy S4 mini does come to fruition it's expected to hit stores in June or July, although Samsung is yet to confirm whether the handset is in production or even in the pipeline.

blip: Bluetooth blood monitor can alert smartphone before a heart attack

Scientists in Switzerland are finalising work on a new implant that can monitor the levels of chemicals in the blood and send vital information to smartphones about a person's health.

This information could alert doctors to an imminent heart attack by reporting an increase in sepcific proteins present in the body prior to a cardiac incident. This is just one of numerous natural compounds that this monitor could keep track of. Diabetic patients could also benefit greatly from having their sugar levels monitored closely by this device.

The implant is 14mm in length, and is powered by an "intelligent patch"; a wireless inductive charger than transmits 10-milliwatts of power to the sensor below the skin. The patch also receives the information from the sensor and trasmits it to a connected device, like a smartphone or a tablet.

Apple's new toy takes Maps indoors

Apple's new toy takes Maps indoors

Apple is hoping to boost its much-maligned Maps application by acquiring a start-up location service that pinpoints a user's position when they're indoors.

The company has paid a reported $20 million (UK£13.1, AUD$19.1) for the two-year-old WiFiSLAM company, which uses local Wi-Fi signals to identify the exact location of a device when GPS isn't available.

The Silicon Valley-based company currently licenses its technology to retailers and social networks, such as supermarket apps that guide users to products within the store.

"Apple acquires smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," said Apple spokesman Steve Dowling, confirming the deal to the Wall Street Journal

A boost for Maps?

WiFiSLAM was co-founded by former Google engineer George Huang and has a "handful" of employees in Palo Alto.

The acquisition gives Apple the opportunity to challenge the Google Maps platform, which already offers indoor maps for some shopping centres, airports and museums.

Apple's own Maps platform is in need of a boost, although the service has steadily improved since the "unfinished" application was launched within iOS 6 back in October last year.

CEO Tim Cook was forced into a humbling apology following the outcry and ridicule that followed Apple's decision to dump the popular Google Maps app for its own solution.
